Video Transcript - Task Management Application NetChecklist.com - Introduction

Hi, welcome to the first video tutorial on the web application NetChecklist.com. In this video I'm just going to talk really briefly about a couple of things you need to know to get started working with the application.

The first thing you need to know is that this is a completely generic application. I come from a background in real estate and construction so I'm going to use examples based on those industries, but don't think that's all it can be used for. This application just provides a framework. It allows you to create your own checklists and to add whatever items you want to your checklists, so you can use it for literally anything you want to use it for.

The second thing you need to understand about this application is how it uses organizations. All of the things you create in the application, your checklists, projects, tasks, etc. all must belong to an organization. An organization would most likely be a business but you'll notice when you create an account, the application automatically creates a personal organization for you. An organization could also be a charitable organization, church, youth sports league - anything at all.

There is however one thing that doesn't have to belong to an organization and that is the user log-in accounts. A user's log-in account is not tied to any particular organization and this is done by design because it allows each user, with a single log-in account, to be a member of multiple organizations. There's no need to keep up with more than one log-in account in order to work within multiple organizations.

Just as a user with a single log-in account, can be a member of more than one organization organizations can also have multiple members. So while the application can certainly be useful for individuals working alone, it's even more beneficial for teams of people working together.

The application offers six different levels of user rights that a member of an organization can have so making someone a member of your organization doesn't necessarily give them unlimited power to do anything they want within it. Just as the different members of an organization can have different levels of user rights within that organization, a single user can also have a different level of user rights within each of the different organizations they're a member of. So a user could be an administrator of one organization they're a member of and a limited user of another organization they're a member of.

Lastly, let's talk about the requirements for tasks in this application. First of all all, like everything else, all tasks must belong to an organization. Additionally, all tasks must be assigned to a user who is a member of that organization. All tasks must also be assigned to a project that belongs to the organization. A project could be a project you're working on, a customer you're doing work for or anything like that. You're almost certainly going to have some tasks that don't really belong to any particular project you're working on so whenever you first create an organization, the application automatically creates a generic, catch all project for your new organization called "No Particular Project" for those types of tasks which you can easily rename or delete if you want to.

That's pretty much all you need to know to get started to let's move on the the video on navigating within the application.
